Discipline disproportionality is the overuse of exclusionary discipline on Black students in American schools. This study recognizes that Critical Race Theory suggests that racism exists inherently within American schools, but also the paper also recognizes that parents of color should be central to the education of their children. The study examines parental involvement as a moderator between race and exclusionary discipline. Data are from the base-year of the Educational Longitudinal Survey of 2002 (n=15,362). A logistic regression model examined three parental involvement dimensions as moderators of race and exclusionary discipline. Two of the three dimensions were associated with a significantly higher rate of discipline disproportionality. Results were analyzed in a framework of CRT. Future research and practice implications are discussed.
