For decades, the UC and UCLA have invested significant resources each year in graduate fellowships designed to increase graduate student diversity, and to support the success of students whose training and scholarship are aligned with UCLA’s diversity goals. The two specific aims of this project are: (1) to conduct the first quantitative comparison of the merit-and need-based financial support packages (amount and type of support each year) provided to diversity fellowship recipients and non-recipients over the past 10 years, and (2) to assess the impact of these fellowships on graduate student success at UCLA. Measures of student success will include academic progress, degree completion, scholarly productivity and career placement.
