This paper outlines a self-study investigation of supervisory practice when based in an evaluative and then a coaching role over the course of one year with two teacher candidates. Findings indicate no matter the purpose of supervision, feedback often lies in the center of a continuum of interactions although coaching provides more opportunity for content-based rather than behavior-based feedback. Emphasizing developmental growth means serving multiple roles and purposes with individual candidates.
