The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of competence, parent community belonging and community participation to their children academic performance. A variety of the empowerment literature point to key components of empowering parents: competence, community belonging and community participation. I surmise that parents with higher level of competence, community belonging, and community participation will likely have children with higher academic performance. Data from the Parent and Family Involvement Survey (PIF) of the National Household Education Survey 2007 (PIF-NHES: 2007) were used to investigate the relationship between parent competence, community belonging, and community participation and children academic performance.
