This study investigates the factor structure of the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC®). Both item-level and parcel-level confirmatory factor analyses were conducted using data from an operational administration of the test. Several hypothesized factor models were used to investigate the underlying latent structured for the two sections, Listening and Reading. This study also evaluated measurement invariance of the factor structure and heterogeneity across subgroups of test-takers who differ on various background variables. The background variables studied included time spent studying English, lived in countries where English is the main language, main reason for taking the test, employment status, age, and gender. This study provides systematic construct validity evidence in support of TOEIC test use and score interpretation.
