Transforming Technological Pedagogical Knowledge: Teachers' Thinking With a Systems Pedagogical Tool

Fri, April 17, 8:15 to 9:45am, Sheraton, Floor: Lobby Level, Columbus AB

Abstract

This descriptive case study examined a systems pedagogical approach as a reflective thinking tool for advancing K-12 teachers’ pedagogical understandings for integrating technologies. In an online graduate course, the teachers considered organizing and supporting students in inquiry, communication and collaboration in ways that collectively advantaged the technology uses. The intersection of these three technology-use categories activated the systems pedagogical approach for influencing their Technological Pedagogical Knowledge (TPK). The systems pedagogical approach provided an object to think with, engaging the teachers’ reflective thinking about the pedagogies for teaching with multiple technologies. The study revealed the influence of this reflective thinking focused on the systems approach as they progressively accommodated and assimilated ideas that transformed their TPK for teaching with multiple technologies.
