Abstract

The purpose of this study is to trace the development of preservice teachers’ understanding of the importance of families at the secondary level while enrolled in a university course on family engagement. This enrollment is in the semester before they began their first year as a teacher or as an intern. The power of this study is revealed in thoughtful student interactions built with scaffolded projects that shape the course and reveal how these affect each preservice teacher.
