Comparing High-Quality Online Professional Development Features to a Statewide Online Professional Development Program

Abstract

The study aims to answer two research questions: 1) “What features of high quality online professional development were reflected in this statewide, 5 module PD series?” 2) “Which features were noted by participants to enhance learning and participation?” Multiple data were collected from 895 educations in a large scale statewide school improvement initiative to compare with the factors of quality oPD outlined in current research. The results from participants’ voices suggested inconsistency between what was intended and what was deigned, delivered, and implemented. The study identified specific aspects of this FIP PD program that will inform future oPD design, delivery and implementation to improve quality in large scale or statewide school improvement initiatives.
