New Jersey School Principals' Perceptions on the Application and Importance of the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium 2008 Standards' "Functions": A Preferred Hierarchy

Thu, April 16, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Swissotel, Floor: Lucerne Level, Alpine I

Abstract

This study examines the perceptions of NJ school principals with regard to the ISLLC 2008 Standards’ “functions” and how they rank them in order of importance as they are applied to the day to day duties of a building principal. A Friedman’s Test for Related Samples was used to rank order participants responses on a 66 item survey that represented the ISLLC 2008 Standards’ “functions.” Statistically significant results indicated a preferred hierarchy among these “functions” with principals placing the highest value on instruction and student learning, Standard II. The lowest ranked functions came from Standards IV and VI, congruent with results from a previous study by the authors on school superintendents’ perceptions of the ISLLC 2008 Standards’ “functions.” (for 5c)
