Organizational Design of Collaborative Teams in Schools

Abstract

This paper seeks to demonstrate how schools and school districts are designed to support collaborative teams (CTs), and how multiple stakeholder decision making works within a specific organizational design. The study is based on observations, interviews, and document analysis conducted in a dozen schools in a large suburban school system. Findings indicate that there is a degree of isomorphism in the design and implementation of CT’s, with a substantial degree of variability and principal discretion related to decision making.
