Many schools are beginning to adopt one-to-one computing with the goal of developing
students’ 21st century skills. Barriers, both internal and external exist for teachers integrating technology. External barriers, such hardware, software, and connectivity impacted integration. Internal barriers such as teacher attitudes, beliefs, confidence, and perceived value contributed as well. The following research examines how barriers, both internal and external, impacted the integration of iPads in a 1:1 initiative in a high needs urban school. Specifically, we focused on the following research questions: 1) To what extent do external barriers, impact or constrain teachers’ efforts to integrate technology: and 2) How to internal barriers such as attitudes, beliefs and efficacy with technology impact efforts to integrate technology in 1:1 initiatives?
