Transnational youths often receive formal schooling across two or more countries yet there is little research on educational practices that can support their academic development across nations. This paper examines how transnational youths and their teachers across Canadian, Caribbean, Mexican, and US geographies experience English language arts education. While acknowledging cross-national differences in English education, the paper proposes approaches to language arts education that can support the academic development of transnational students in and across different countries as well as that of their mono-national peers. These include: creating a transnationally- and culturally-affirming learning environment; reading and writing instruction that emphasize transnationalism, multilingualism, and other forms of diversity; and critical inquiry into local and global injustices.
