Sadistic Justice: On the Possibilities of the Marquis de Sade

Abstract

My purpose in the current essay is to explore the disreputable and perverse figure of the Marquis de Sade for his contributions to a philosophy of education. If philosophy of education is marginal, might the marginalized work of Sade offer us something exciting? It is this excitement and its incitement that Sade seems an apropos theorist to explore for the insights he provides us two centuries after his death about justice, sexuality, and the philosophical project.
