Abstract

Catastrophe, an Uncanny Catalyst for Creativity
Under the aegis to improve elementary pre-service teacher education, uncommon sources for arts integration pedagogies are examined in this qualitative research study to understand issues of climate change and environmental justice. The objectives of the session are:
1. to embolden pre-service teachers’ arts integration lesson planning with both emotive and intellectual understandings of the complex interactions and imbalances in our natural environment and
2. to encourage burgeoning aesthetic literacies and academic language in science through exemplars to empower interdisciplinary teaching and learning.
The theoretical framework for this research study on interdisciplinary arts integration to advance student learning is corroborated by the work of educational researchers such as Deasy, Lynch, Cote, Freedman, and Eisner.
