Immersion and Interculturalization: Change and the Reflection Paradigm

Fri, April 17, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Hyatt, Floor: West Tower - Gold Level, Atlanta

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to understand the process of learning that students experienced during cultural immersion by colleting data both during and after the experience. Our objective was to solicit personal reflections while students experienced immersion and after their return, allowing students to process the experience and reflect upon their learning. The reasoning behind this two-pronged approach was to capture the unfolding experience of cultural immersion based on the assumption that learning continues after the lived experience ends. Our intention was to better understand their learning by beginning with a model of learning that captures this entire process.
