Though there is previous research at the state level, and at the national level, there is no previous research that uses both state- and national-level data to better understand demographics of adult learners who transition to postsecondary education (PSE) and correlate their PSE success with relevant variables. The goal of the current research is to extend the utility of two datasets by connecting subgroup data from a cross-sectional nationally representative dataset with longitudinal state data from one Midwestern state on adults enrolled in an adult literacy program who earned a GED credential and ultimately pursued PSE. Our research analyzes data from both datasets, thereby more precisely describing who successfully makes the transition.
