What Do Teachers Believe? Measuring Teachers' Beliefs About Inclusive Classroom Assessment

Abstract

This study assessed teachers’ beliefs about four concepts of inclusive assessment (assessment for, as, of learning [AFL, AAL, AOL], and accommodations [ACC]). The questionnaire responses from a group of seventy-six teachers in Ontario were analyzed. The following summaries can be drawn from the present study: First, participating teachers held relatively positively beliefs about accommodations compared to the other three concepts of classroom assessment. Second, these teachers had more positive beliefs toward AOL than AFL. Third, these teachers held stronger beliefs about AAL than AFL. Finally, the findings of this study are generalizable across various teaching experiences and characteristics such as sex, years of teaching, subject areas, and grade level taught in school.
