An "Experimental" Journey of Setting Up Ethnic Education Support Teachers at Indigenous Focus Schools

Abstract

The curriculum of general education is restricted the Han nationality since 1949 in Taiwan. Today, it has been accused as one reason that cause indigenous students have low academic performance. Indigenous cultures are reinstalled into textbooks after the monoculture educational policy was removed in 1987. To root indigenous cultures in focus schools, indigenous education support teachers were employed by Social Welfare Founds in 2010. Although the “experimental journey” were forced to stop due to trustee withdraw founds in 2012, the works devoted by support teachers should be respected and let the world know. The manuscript presented the impact of support teachers on creating friendly learning environment for indigenous students, and the inspiration of developing experimental ethic school in future.
