Abstract

Community and school-based policies relegate impoverished black youth to the margins of society. If there is any hope to improve their condition, approaches should be made to address both their community and educational needs. Radical youth work, a practice where professionals are asked to attend to the personal and political needs of vulnerable youth, offers the most potential to serve the purposes of liberation. This paper explores the field of radical youth work and its viability as a transformative approach to improve life outcomes and foster community transformation for marginalized black youth.
