Teacher Collaboration in Asian Schools: Does It Impact Student Performance?

Abstract

Collaborative school culture has been found to have positive impact on student learning. Several studies uncovered a pattern of active teacher collaboration in high performing schools. However, research in this area has largely focused on the educational context of the West. This quantitative study used data from Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) 2011 to examine the impact of teacher collaboration on student performance in three Asian countries: Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore. We found that there was no evidence that teacher collaboration affected student reading achievement in those countries.
