Sun, April 19, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Hyatt, Floor: East Tower - Purple Level, Riverside East

Abstract

With the increase in online graduate programs and students studying part-time online, online mentoring for projects and dissertations is on the rise. This research focuses on online mentoring during the dissertation process in an online doctoral program in educational technology. Semi-structured interviews with 16 program graduates and four faculty members provided insight into strategies used, challenges faced, and technologies used for online mentoring during the dissertation process. The results are useful to online mentors and faculty engaged in doctoral education as well as students who work with their graduate supervisors or mentors in the online environment.
