Abstract

This qualitative study explores the mentoring experiences and practices of faculty members in highly-selective programs of Mechanical Engineering and Social Work. We aim to understand how the culture of the discipline combined with the culture associated with elite doctoral programs might lead to differences in the ways in which faculty members in Mechanical Engineering and Social Work conceptualize their roles and responsibilities as advisors
