Exploring Alignment Between Quick Polls and Lesson Objectives and State Standards

Thu, April 16, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Marriott, Floor: Fifth Level, Los Angeles/Miami

Abstract

Texas Instrument (TI)-Navigator Systems provide wireless communication options with TI handhelds. This technology allows teachers to assess students’ understanding by asking questions and collecting responses instantly. However, there is a need of analyzing levels of quick poll (QP) questions and how they are related to lesson objectives and stated standards. Misalignment between lesson objectives and QP questions, as a designated formative assessment, will not indicate whether or not the students have reached the lesson objectives. In this study, Bloom’s taxonomy was used to provide a consistent classification system of three categories of data: daily objectives, QP questions, and state standards. Bloom’s taxonomy aided \ comparisons between each of the three categories.
