A Data-Wise Culture: An Evolving School Feature

Abstract

Data-informed instructional decision-making has evolved into an essential process in schools. This feature has not been fully reflected in the school culture constructs developed to date. To reflect this feature, this study identifies and creates three school cultural factors effective in improving student learning thorough the review of 80 empirical studies. The reliability and construct validity of the data-wise culture (DWC) model composed of these factors were tested using the DWC survey developed through this study. The survey has high reliability and construct validity. The DWC framework can be used to inform principal preparation or training. The DWC survey can be used to evaluate how well school leaders influence school conditions that foster data analysis in schools.
