Guided by a humanistic approach to education (Freire, 1970; 1997; Giroux, 2010), I developed a program that brought pre-service teachers and secondary-level immigrant and refugee students together to deliberate through instructional conversations in an after-school program, develop artworks to show their perspectives on immigration, and informally discuss the art at a gallery showing located at the university. Immigrant and refugee students created over 60 art displays showing their perspectives on immigration. In this action research, I analyzed participants’ Tweets during their participation in this gallery event. Participants were able to recognize multiple perspectives, articulate their own ideologies, and respond to specific political initiatives, such as the Senate’s 2013 immigration bill.
