This case study followed the developing teacher identities of two Asian American pre-service teachers over the course of three semesters in majority-White elementary field placements through a university teacher education program. Through the lenses of Asian Critical Race (AsianCrit) Theory and anti-oppressive education, opportunities to change and challenge cultural (mis)knowledge and (mis)understandings in school and university settings were examined as teacher and cultural identities both overlapped and diverged. While the pre-service teachers were often reticent to bring up their ethnic identities in the daily school setting, they used their cultural knowledge to clarify student misconceptions but showed less resistance when confronted with racism and stereotypes in the university setting.
