The voices of Muslim and perceived-as-Muslim teachers have received little attention post-9/11 but offer a counternarrative to dominant notions of patriotism and unity in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks. This paper presents the case study of a South Asian American educator’s instructional unit about terrorism and 9/11. Using a critical race lens and Omi and Winant’s (1994) theory of racial formation, this paper examines how some students in an all-girls school understand the role of terrorist and interpret acts of terror presented through scenarios in the form of a discovery lesson.
