Disrupting La Cultura Matanza Toward a Socialist Alternative: A Marxist Perspective and the Decolonial Option

Abstract

In this theoretical paper, we draw upon the work of decolonial scholars to complement our Marxist analysis of capitalism to spawn its alternative. La cultura matanza refers to the ideological formations that allow for the negation of the global south, including the acceptance of epistemicide. We contend that the affirmation (or the negation of the negation) of the global south, represented by those who suffer most under world capitalist and colonial relations, is necessary for destroying the ideological formations that not only maintain a working class divided but that also would prevent the conditions of possibility for a truly democratic socialist alternative. A decolonial pedagogy within the revolutionary critical pedagogy tradition is advanced.
