This paper explores the challenge of a disruption precipitated by a participant that occurred in an interview conducted in a comparative study on gendered academic career trajectories in New Zealand and Danish universities. The paper explores the disruption toward a retooling of the conceptual framework of the methodology of intersectionality. The disruption is then utilized to explore the productive dimensions initiated by this disruption to rethink, readjust, and recalibrate intersectionality as a methodological tool in ways that avoid obvious connections and preconceptions when analyzing data in the context of women in higher education.
