Our purpose, as part of a larger on-going project tracing intergenerational narratives, is to better know our parents and to reflect on our relationships with them after their deaths. Our poetic inquiry is informed by a duoethnographic approach. In British Columbia, Canada, the voices of author A’s father and author B’s mother were marginalized. However both strove to reach beyond their marginalization through the acquisition of education and language. We work with the legacy of poems left behind by A’s father, and poetry written by B about her mother. We show how this inquiry deepens our thinking about the nature of our education research and praxis. Focusing on culture, language, heritage and justice the paper is not yet final.
