The purpose of the current study is to examine students' interest in online groupwork and the related factors in the social and cultural context of China. Using data from undergraduate students from online study groups, we examined student- and group-level predictors for online groupwork interest. The Findings revealed that most of the variance in online groupwork interest was at the student level, and online groupwork interest was positively related to variables such as monitoring motivation, peer-oriented reasons, and the number of previous online courses taken. In addition, full-time students (compared with part-time students) rated online groupwork as being more interesting. Among the group-level predictors, learning-oriented reasons was the only one that stood out as being statistically significant
