Peterson and Moss provide an overview on students’ beliefs and present a case for articulating clear, defensible outcomes and goals when addressing the beliefs of aspiring teachers in their educational psychology classes. They have developed an alternative way to conceptualize belief change that differs from many previous approaches in teacher education. They address the challenges inherent in transforming the beliefs of aspiring teachers and describe their approach to facilitating belief transformation in their educational psychology courses. Their chapter concludes with reflections on their experiences in facilitating belief transformation. Significantly, although their chapter discussion is framed within the context of teaching educational psychology courses, Peterson and Moss believe that the framework can be and should be used throughout teacher preparation curricula.
