Schools of nursing are increasingly offering fully online or blended, distance-accessible courses as part of their education programs. Recruiting and retaining faculty to teach these courses is crucial for these programs to succeed. A deeper understanding of factors that promote nursing faculty satisfaction with teaching online could help schools of nursing achieve strategic goals for distance education. The purpose of this qualitative multiple case study was to explore factors promoting nursing faculty’s satisfaction with teaching online from the perspectives of faculty, administrators, and instructional designers in three schools of nursing in one Southeastern state. Data analysis revealed themes regarding benefits and challenges in teaching strategies, personal life, training and support, and institutional issues for nursing faculty teaching online.
