Errors can have positive effects on learning processes if teacher behavior is conducive to learning. Recent findings in the field of accountancy suggest that the professional error competence of pre-service teachers is still at a rather low level. We have therefore developed and evaluated two alternative trainings, one focusing on CK (knowledge about domain specific student errors) and one focusing on PCK (strategies for handling errors). The results of our empirical analysis indicate that error knowledge can be advanced by means of training programs. However, we could not find any significant differences between the two intervention groups in the preliminary analysis. The collected data offer several opportunities for further in-depth analysis, which we will pursue in later papers.
