Abstract

School educational resource is a key focus on school improvement due to its influence on learning outcomes. This paper examined the fit and function of the 13-item PISA 2006 School Educational Resource Scale utilizing the American sample containing 155 schools. Results were applied to evaluate how well the instrument measures school educational resource and examine the rating scale structure of the 4-point School Educational Resource Scale. Rasch analysis revealed that the rating scale model met criteria as a good match of the theoretical expectation. The majority of items perform consistently with the model, thus, overall model fit was acceptable. However, the PISA instrument did not separate persons very well. Suggestions for improving the survey measure are included.
