Abstract

This paper presents findings from a case study that explored the potential role of education policy, enacted through funding programs, in shaping education research agendas that lead to greater justice within education. Specifically, this study examined if the National Science Foundation’s Discovery Research in K–12 (DR K-12) program has made a unique contribution to research in the fields of science and mathematics education for English language learners (ELLs) and if so, in what ways. Findings indicated that the funding and the emphases of the DR K–12 program did influence and shape the research in these fields, thus supporting much-needed research that is a necessary step to improving the quality of science and mathematics education for ELLs.
