This study investigated the relationship between academic persistence and academic growth. A survey containing items on academic persistence was administered to all students in Minneapolis Public Schools in grades 3 to 12. After controlling for several critical variables, an academically persistent disposition was related to academic growth on math and reading test scores as well as overall GPA. These findings highlight the importance of understanding non-cognitive factors and their role in students’ academic success.
