Sat, April 18, 8:15 to 9:45am, Hyatt, Floor: East Tower - Purple Level, Riverside West

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore the development of a paired variables participant selection method for use in a sequential mixed methods study on student motivation and classroom environments in science education. Specifically, the focus of this paper is on the paired variables selection model developed to identify students from Phase One (quantitative) to participate in in-depth interviews in Phase Two (qualitative) of this mixed methods study. Composites were developed for each student in Phase One using the key variables of interest: (1) science motivation and (2)reported teacher-student interactions.
