Are Students Gaining General and Subject-Area Knowledge in College? Evidence From Brazil

Abstract

This study proposes a simple methodology to calculate the “value-added” in higher education in terms of the general and subject area knowledge for students enrolled in a number of programs in Brazil. Results suggest that there is evidence that students are indeed gaining both general and subject area specific knowledge in college.
