A framework for queer inclusion in education offers a transformative pedagogy for providing educators in and preparing for K-12 schools settings with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions for LGBTQ advocacy (Author, 2015). This framework is grounded in critical social theory and queer theory; LGBTQ “issues” are reframed as consequences of cis- and heteronormative practices in K-12 schools and in higher education. Two teacher-educators offer research findings from two years of teaching a 1-credit course designed to provide a forum for in- and pre-service teachers to explore and develop a personal framework for encountering and making sense of gender and sexual identity as they manifest in K-12 schools. Course materials (e.g., assignment descriptors, syllabi) will be shared with session participants.
