Career Technical Education Curriculum Alignment Across a Multi-Institutional Community College Consortium

Sat, April 18, 8:15 to 10:15am, Marriott, Floor: Fourth Level, Addison

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to provide insight into factors affecting collaboration, including collective efficacy, organizational learning, and constructive conflict resolution, in a large community college consortium where an organizational team approach was utilized to develop accelerated, intensive programs of study in three Career Technical Education industries (Agriculture Manufacturing, Alternative Clean Energy, and Healthcare) to enable students to earn a degree or certificate of value in a reasonable amount of time. A mixed design was used. A regression analysis revealed that quality of project outcomes was successfully predicted, but there were no differences between the three industry teams on collaboration variables. Four themes emerged from interviews: relationship building/dissolving competition, sense of empowerment, supportive leadership and fear for future sustainability.
