The Effects of Weekly Reflection on Preservice Teachers' Conceptions of Citizenship

Abstract

How do preservice teachers view citizenship? Participants written reflections about democracy and citizenship were analyzed to examine how preservice teachers’ conceptualize citizenship. Participants’ reflections demonstrated that participants held complex views about citizenship. Their conceptions of citizenship were mapped onto Westheimer and Kahne’s (2004) typology.
