School Effectiveness: Seeking Justice for All Students

Abstract

A Meta-analysis of published studies over the past thirty years on school effectiveness that have used the Index of Perceived Organizational Effectiveness (IPOE) was conducted. Five categories of factors related to school effectiveness were identified, namely; leadership, teacher characteristics, organizational features, community influence, and contextual variables. Teacher characteristics such as trust, efficacy, and collegiality had the strongest relationship with effectiveness. Additionally, there was a significant relationship between perceptions of effectiveness and student achievement.
