In this study, we designed a framework based on theoretical models of teaching and empirically tested its utility as a tool to prompt self-reflection. The framework comprised six dimensions: Teacher, Teaching, Learner, Learning, Content and Context. Twenty-nine instructors were randomly assigned to the experimental and control groups. All taught a short session that was videotaped and then used the video to reflect on their teaching. The experimental group used the framework as a prompt whereas the control group was given the framework after the experiment was over. Findings revealed that the group who had the framework went into a greater depth in their reflection. The instructors’ reflective comments were used to revise the framework.
