An Investigation of Multistage Test Design Factors for Mixed-Format Tests

Thu, April 16, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Sheraton, Floor: Fourth Level, Chicago VI&VII

Abstract

The current study investigated varied proportions of dichotomously scored and polytomously scored items, panel structures, and total scores on mixed-format multistage testing (MST). All MSTs were constructed using a Linear Programming (LP) solver. Results demonstrated that all conditions recovered the true abilities well, while the panel structure and total points were two strongest factors that influenced measurement precisions. In addition, an interaction between the MST structure and total points in terms of test performance was discovered and reported.
