Implementing the Common Core State Standards in Elementary Schools: A Case Study of Voices From the Field

Thu, April 16, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Hyatt, Floor: East Tower - Purple Level, Riverside East

Abstract

This paper describes a case study of elementary school teachers and their experiences implementing common core state standards (CCSS). With new assessments coming into play connected to the new standards, teachers have heightened awareness of their daily work implementing CCSS pedagogy. With little empirical research conducted on CCSS implementation or effective strategies for helping students to meet the rigorous standards, this case study of elementary teacher practice and pedagogy provides insight into what teachers think and need for more successful practice and implementation.
