This qualitative ethnographic case study, guided by critical race theory (CRT), examined how charter school personnel defined college access for African American and Latina/o students, specifically regarding community college enrollment. While attending higher education was the ultimate goal that the staff had for students, attending a community college was often seen as a stigma and only appropriate for those who were academically underprepared. Although this charter schools boasted a strong a college-going culture, community colleges were still positioned as a deficit choice amongst students and staff. In addition, college advising was administered through a color blind approach.
