Comparison of Students' Achievement: Deaf, Learning Disabled, and Deaf With a Learning Disability

Abstract

Although much literature has been devoted to examining the differences in performance observed between hearing and deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) students’ academic performance, little is known about test performance differences that distinguish students who are DHH from those who are DHH and have a learning disability. Utilizing the WJ III tests of achievement, the purpose of this paper is to present exploratory findings regarding the academic achievement of national samples of students who are DHH, students with a learning disability, and students who are DHH and have a learning disability. Findings include preliminary patterns in both demographic characteristics and academic achievement between our three target groups.
