Abstract

The purpose of the research is to describe the underlying principles that informed the newest CSU Ed.D. program and to contrast the organizing principles of the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (www.cpedorganization.org) with more general ethical principles explored in the writings of Sir Geoffrey Vickers (1965/1995). The research contributes to understanding of the advanced education of school leaders. The research connects some of the ethical principles in Vickers (1965/1995) work on human appreciation and judgment with principles outlined in the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED). The research explores what is gained by connecting principles related to human appreciative systems with underlying assumptions and beliefs that are part of the CPED initiative.
