African American urban sixth graders with emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD) were taught key school-based social skills. A social skill package consisting of computer-based instruction and culturally responsive materials was used for instruction. A multiple-probe across participants design revealed convincing increases in the students’ ability to follow adult directions. Generalization results were modest for four students but two students demonstrated increasing trends across experimental conditions for the dependent measures. These results support the use of these procedures for urban African American adolescents with EBD and have implications for urban students with and without special needs.
